Traffic authorities search for vantage points at Traffic Junctions

Hyderabad: Authorities of city traffic police, GHMC and other stakeholders of Hyderabad Traffic Integrated Management System (H-TRIMS) undertook a joint inspection of various traffic junctions in the city on Friday, to select vantage points for signal poles.

Talking to The Hans India, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), CV Anand said that they inspected over 22 traffic junctions in different zones of the city to ensure effective installation of signalling system. The ten-hour long tour was to get a holistic understanding of the H-TRIMS model junction installed at Jubilee Hills Check Post and to replicate it at all the other 220 junctions, said CV Anand.

The H-TRIMS model junction at Jubilee Hills was launched in January this year, featuring pedestrian signals on all sides of the junction. CV Anand said that the location of the pedestrian signals was being carefully selected after thorough study of pedestrians’ behaviour and requirements.

The system also facilitates ‘hooters’ for pedestrians at the traffic junction. The hooters have two cycle timings, first being ‘ordinary cycle’, where pedestrians cross half the road while traffic flows on the other side. The second being ‘pedestrian cycle’, where signals of all the directions turn red which in turn would make the entire pedestrian signal green at the junction.

Further, there are also footpath railings opening for pedestrians only at the zebra crossing at the junction and refugee islands at the median of junctions that facilitates space for pedestrians to stand.
